“ It was time to surrender. Surrender myself to the world. World beyond realms of despair. Despair to be broken. With hope. Hope to love. Love to see. See the world. The world that exists inside and outside. “
The author of this book was living a dream life as a successful salesperson in New York City. But then he decides to live his life by his own mindset and not by the society laid definitions. He left the United States and set out on a journey to Ayahuasca. The book which is partly autobiographical and partly a travelogue, will take you on a mesmerizing journey through the tribal magic of shamanic ceremonies in the Amazon jungle to the Incan legacy of Peru’s Sacred Valley and the sublime energy of the megalithic Machu Picchu.
The book is divided into three parts: Complete Surrender, Ayahuasca Journey and the Drifting Mode. Writing in a lyrical style, the story flows smoothly from one part to another, describing the beauty of the nature around the author. Each and every sentence is so deep and the strong imageries used throughout will just transport you to the dense greenery of Amazon jungles and Peru. The book is filled with important lessons the author learns during his journey.
The book is writing in a simple language, though, I stumbled upon some new words, which I had to look up in the dictionary and thankfully that added some words to my vocabulary. The short yet so meaningful poems are like the icing to the cake. I loved the vivid descriptions of all the places the author visited. At times, the definitions felt repetitive and that bored me. Otherwise, this is my first travelogue read and I definitely loved it. Would suggest it to any travelogue lover or wanderlust out there!!
